Splicing Tape

A splice that opens cleanly at full web speed saves a reel change, a press stop and a lot of waste. Fortis Industrial supplies the complete tesa® splicing range to Malaysian converters, paper mills and film laminators. For automatic flying splices there is the EasySplice FilmLine family: 51910 FilmLine Plus with a paper backing, 51918 and 61958 FilmLine Black, 51938 FilmLine Robotic for automatic preparation units and 51948 Black X for demanding film webs. Their integrated splitting strip opens the new reel smoothly while the black backing lets sensors detect the splice.

Paper converters and tissue lines use the repulpable double-sided tapes — tesa® CaRes 51912 and 51913, 51915 and 51916 transfer tapes, 51917 tissue-backed tape and single-sided 4446 — which dissolve in the pulper without contaminating recycled fibre. For heat-resistant and general splicing, 4137 aluminised polyester, 4432 and 64432 flatback paper tapes, 4959 non-woven, 4963 film tape, 50948 black PET high-tack tape, 51904 hand-tearable double-sided tape and the 54242 butterfly die-cut complete the assortment. Every tape carries its tesa product information sheet with thickness, adhesion and application data.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a flying splice and a zero-speed splice?

A flying splice joins the new reel to the expiring web while the press runs at full speed, using an integrated tape such as tesa® EasySplice that splits open on contact. A zero-speed (or static) splice is made with the web stopped or in an accumulator, so a standard double-sided splicing tape like tesa® 51904 or 4963 is enough.

Which tesa splicing tapes are repulpable?

tesa® CaRes 51912 and 51913, tesa® 51915, 51916 and 51917, and the single-sided tesa® 4446, 4441, 4445 and 51446 use water-soluble acrylic adhesives and paper carriers so they break down in the pulper and do not contaminate recycled fibre.

Can I get a sample roll or a TDS before ordering?

Yes. Every product page has the tesa product information sheet for download, and Fortis Industrial can arrange trial rolls for Malaysian converters — send us the web material, web speed and splicer type and we will recommend the tape.
